Jahlil Okafor Should Consider Being On The 76ers A Blessing In Disguise
Even though Jahlil Okafor tried to convince the Philadelphia 76ers organization to pass on him in the draft this year, going into the season Okafor should consider it a blessing in disguise that he landed in Philadelphia at least for his rookie contact. The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that will give Jahlil Okafor the opportunity to accelerate his development process because the 76ers are still in a rebuilding stage . During his rookie year, Okafor will get a good amount of touches and/or plays ran for him on offense.
As a result of this, the Philadelphia 76ers and Jahlil Okafor will a good feel for what aspects of his offensive game translate to the NBA. For instance I expect the 76ers to post up Jahlil Okafor 5-7 feet away from the basket this will allow Okafor to use his go to moves in the half court offense which are 1. Back down his defender by using his right shoulder and then when he’s close enough to the basket he shoots a hook shoot with his left hand. 2. Catching the ball in the post and using a spin move to the left then shooting a layup or floater/ hook.
I expect his go to moves to work early in the season but as the season goes on opposing defenses will double-team him. As a result of this, Okafor will need to develop the habit of constantly passing the ball to the perimeter. To help lessen double-team Okafor could also experiment with shooting more mid rage jumpers since opposing defenses will most likely sag off due to the fact that this is the weakest part of his game. But eventually the more he shoots it the stronger it will become
