Mariners Daily 3/15

Not the greatest game for the Mariners today who lost to the Dodgers 12-7. Chris Heston started for the Mariners today and struggled allowing 3 earned runs in just 2.1 innings. Jonathan Aro, Christian Bergman and Jean Machi also struggled in relief allowing a combined 9 earned runs on 1 hits with 1 walk through 3.1 innings, definitely not what the Mariners wanted to see out of guys who are trying to prove their worth.

Offensively it was a pretty good day for the Mariners who scored 7 runs off of 13 hits. The M's didn't fare too well with runners in scoring position, going only 3-14 RISP. Jarrod Dyson, Ben Gamel and Mike Freeman lead the way for the M's as those three guys combined to drive in 4 of the 7 Mariners runs. Tyler O'Neil (Who just returned from playing for team Canada in the WBC) Guillermo Heredia, Leonys Martin and Boog Powell also had productive at bats today

Defensively it wasn't a good game for the Mariners who again committed an error, 2 to be exact. Mike Freeman recorded his 5th error this spring on a fielding error and Tyler O'Neill recorded his first error of the spring on a fielding error as well. Tyler O'Neill would have more errors if you can't the errors who had in the WBC.

Drew Smyly

United States

Felix and Smyly both turned in impressive outings. Smyly recorded 8 strike outs without walking a single batter which is great to see. Smyly also only allowed 3 hits and the 1 run that scored was unearned due to an error. Felix looked like classic Felix, allowing only 3 hits as well, didn't walk anyone, didn't allow a run and had 3 strikeouts. Overall the Mariners were very well represented at the WBC, especially today.

Tomorrow the Mariners will face the Kansas City Royals at !:05 PM PT at Surprise Stadium. Chase De Jong will make his third start this spring and he will face former Mariners pitcher Jason Vargas. There will be no TV coverage of the game and the radio broadcast on 710 ESPN Seattle Radio will be delayed.

Go Mariners!
