BU early jump left Huskies chasing
After a gritty 2-2 tie up at Boston University the Huskies we’re poised to make Hockey East headlines if they could topple the Terriers at their home opener at the XL Center.

That possibility became unlikely just a couple minutes into the first period. BU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and UConn had only responded with 6 shots and a lack luster approach to clearing the puck from the front of the their own net.
However, unlike previous seasons when UConn fell behind by multiply goals the game was over as they previously lacked any rallying counter punch. This season the Huskies have shown an ability to get up off the mat after a knockdown and they did just that although briefly.
Brass Bonanza finally blared midway through the second period when UConn Sophomore forward Alexander Payusov scored his fourth on the season. Less than two minutes later Brass Bonanza played again when Senior Spencer Nass tapped in a short side shot after a rebound off the boards.

The game was suddenly 3-2 and the crowd was back in full support. The Husky comeback was not to be though as that was as close as things got for Hartford Hockey fans.
BU went on to a 6-3 win with only 26 shots on Sophomore Adam Huska in net. The key problem for the Huskies was clearly keeping BU forwards out of the crease in their own zone.
BU forward Bobo Carpenter scored a hat trick and two of his three goals came when he was two feet in front of the net. He was almost waiting for a bouncing puck after a shot. Dealing with campers in front of the net and BU getting half it’s offense from power play goals sunk the Huskies chance for a win against the 7th ranked team in the country.
UConn’s next matchup is on the road Friday October 27 against the Red Hawks of Miami University in Ohio.

Break Aways:
Payusov's hot start with four goals sure helps in the loss of Tage Thompson to the NHL. Right now you could say he's emerged as the main forward scoring threat for UConn.
Huskies did keep an effort increasing in shots each period. (6-9-15)
Stunning that the Huskies won twice as many face offs as BU but yet fell so far behind. (42-21)
Attendance of 3,674 not all that stellar but with Home Coming games at Rentschler Field and at Storrs, the Dublin Donuts Park Beer Garden plus the Yankees vs Houston ALCS game 7 it’s not so surprising. The attendance number is closer to openers in the past for UConn.
