Players to Watch: Solumayne Kouressi, Bryce Willis, Josh Alexander

The Iona Prep Gaels are working on improving on a 15-14 record and have championship aspirations in mind. The gaels will be led by their three senior captains in Bryce Wills, American university bound forward Josh Alexander and Richmond bound guard/ Forward Sol Kouressi. This will also be a big year for new head coach Steve Alvarado who was an assistant with the team last year.

2017-18 Outlook

The Gaels have the size and talent to compete with anyone in the CHSAA, but will that be enough to improve on a 3-6 record in league play ? That remains to be seen with some experience they improving on that record should be no problem but as for the postseason look for the Gaels to be in the final four this season.

Key games to Watch

December 17th: Iona Prep vs St. Frances (MD) at the City Legendz Classic

It’s always interesting when you get the chance to see a CHSAA team play some of the best teams from other states. The gaels will face off against a very tough St. Frances academy team from Baltimore coached by Nick Myles. This St. Frances team has not lost in the City Legendz invitational in the past two years, it will be a tough task for the gaels to change that but they are ready for it.

January 5th: Iona Prep vs Stepinac at the Westchester County Center

The annual rivalry game between the Gaels and the crusaders is going to be epic. Both teams will bring the crowds and the energy will be at an all time high. This will be a statement game for the Gaels.

January 21st: Iona Prep vs Albany Academy at the Empire Invitational

The gaels will have one of their biggest non-conference games when they will face defending state federation champions Albany academy. A game like this could probably prepare the Gaels for the postseason
