NFL Retirement “Playbook”

By Jeff Nixon
Jul. 04, 2017

I have attached the NFL “Retirement Playbook.” The booklet was produced by the NFL Retirement board, in conjunction with the League and and NFL Players Association.

Please read this booklet carefully and show it to your family. It is important that they be aware of your pension and disability benefits and the Retirement Plan’s survivor protection features. Please keep this booklet with your permanent records.

This booklet summarizes the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle NFL Player Retirement Plan in everyday language. The Retirement Plan provides eligible National Football League Players with pension and disability benefits, and offers survivor protection for their spouses and families.

The Retirement Plan is maintained in accordance with the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement between the National Football League Players Association and the National Football League Management Council.

The booklet describes the main features of the Retirement Plan as of November 2015, including how to qualify for benefits, how benefits are calculated, and how benefits are paid. Certain important terms are defined in the Appendix and are italicized throughout this booklet. This booklet and more information about the Retirement Plan are on the Plan’s website. Just go to: NFLPlayerBenefits.com and register or login using your old MyGoalline account username and password.

The NFL Player Benefits website has good information on the Disability Plan and it can guide you through the application process in a series of simple steps that you can do on your own.

One last thing: The Pension Playbook is not a substitute for the official Retirement Plan document and, in the event of a conflict, the official Retirement Plan document will be followed. If you would like to review the official Retirement Plan document, please contact the NFL Player Benefits Office at:
