One bad line change in a 3 on 3 overtime can cause a team to lose a game. The Bruins made a line change at the wrong time, which lead to a 2 on 1 for the Capitals, and Nicklas Backstrom made them pay by burying the puck in the net. Washington defeated Boston 4 to 3 in overtime.

Justin Williams scored both goals for the Capitals in the first period. Daniel Winnik scored for the Capitals in the second period. Dominic Moore and David Pastrnak scored for the Bruins in the second period.

Colin Miller scored for the Bruins in the third period. The Bruins were fortunate enough to pick up a point in the game. Tuukka Rask made 16 saves for the Bruins. Braden Holtby made 31 saves for the Capitals.

These teams will play each other 2 more times this season.
