Before the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter's number 2 was retired. There was a whole ceremony for it and the fans at Yankee Stadium all cheered for his accomplishments. He was the captain for the Yankees for many years.

Jeter played in the MLB from 1995 to 2014. He had 3,465 hits 260 homeruns and 1,311 RBI's and a .310 batting average throughout his career. He is also known for making clutch plays in the postseason and as "Mr. November".

Jeter is the 21st Yankees player to get his number retired. He also has a plaque going into Monument Park inside Yankee Stadium. Since his number is now retired, the Yankees won't have numbers 1-9 available, but the number zero is available if they want to use it.

He was the heart and soul of the New York Yankees for many decades. You didn't need to be a Yankees fan to admire his style and passion for the game of baseball.
