The New Jersey Devils wanted to avoid a let down in the thick of a playoff race on Tuesday Night against their arch rivals the New York Rangers. The Devils didn't mess around early as they scored three goals in the first 10:40 of the game and it sparked them to a 5-2 win.

Travis Zajac, Taylor Hall (power play), and Will Butcher (power play) scored goals for the Devils in the first period. Ryan Spooner scored the lone goal for the Rangers in the first period.

Will Butcher scored another power-play goal in the second-period for New Jersey. It was his first career multi-goal game. Later in the second, Taylor Hall beat Henrik Lundqvist top shelf on a penalty-shot goal. He had a four-point night (two goals and two assists), and Hall has 39 goals and 54 assists this season. Chants of MVP were being expressed at the Prudential Center.

Kevin Hayes scored the lone goal in the third-period for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves for the Rangers. Keith Kinkaid made 22 saves for the Devils.

New Jersey needs one more win or one more Florida Panthers loss to clinch a playoff spot. This would be the first time since the 2011-2012 season the New Jersey Devils would be in the playoffs. The New Jersey Devils won the season series 3-1 against the New York Ranger
