Does Kyle Korver Addition Help Cavs?

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers made a deal the other day to acquire Kyle Korver from the Atlanta Hawks for Mo Williams, Mike Dunleavy, and a future draft pick. Will the addition of Korver help or hurt the Cavaliers?

It will help to begin with because J.R. Smith doesn't return to the lineup for the next several weeks. Kyle Korver will be an upgrade the starting shooting guard position until Smith comes back. DeAndre Liggins, Iman Shumpert, and Jordan McRae are all better defenders than him, but they struggle to shoot the three ball.

Liggins is averaging 3.1 PPG, McRae is averaging 5.2 PPG, and Shumpert is averaging 7 PPG. Meanwhile Kyle Korver is averaging 9.5 PPG, and he is also shooting 40% from downtown this season. He will provide much needed depth. When Smith returns, Korver will most likely come off the bench.

He will also get a lot of looks because Lebron James loves to drive to the basket and dish the basketball. Will it also take away some shots from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. It may but if he is on fire, Korver will take some pressure off of them. If he is cold, then the big guys will need to score the basketball.

Korver could be a possible x-factor come the postseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
