The Toronto Maple Leafs struck three times in the first-period in Saturday's Night showdown against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh rallied after that but it fell short in Toronto's 4-3 victory over them.

Connor Brown, James van Riemsdyk, and Tyler Bozak scored in the first for the Maple Leafs. Riley Sheahan and Evgeni Malkin (power play) scored for Pittsburgh in the second period. 22 seconds later after Malkin's goal, Tyler Bozak redirected Jake Gardiner's shot into the net for Toronto.

In the third, Sidney Crosby scored for Pittsburgh with 2:48 remaining. The closest the Penguins got to tying the game was Olli Maatta hitting the post with under a minute remaining. This game could have easily been 10-9 tonight.

Mitchell Marner had three assists for the Maple Leafs. Recent call up Dominik Simon had two assists for the Penguins.

Frederik Andersen made 33 saves for the Maple Leafs. Tristan Jarry made 13 saves in the first-period for the Penguins. Casey DeSmith came in for the rest of the game and he made eight saves. These two teams will meet each other two more times this season.
