To Rest or Not to Rest?

NHL: New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins

The injury bug is plaguing the Pittsburgh Penguins, and yet they are only 1-point back of the Washington Capitals. The question is now that they have clinched a playoff spot, should they start resting or keep playing for the number 1 seed?

Well, this isn't the NBA so it is very likely players will keep competing at a high level every night. Pittsburgh has 10 games left on the schedule. The difference between being the 1 and the 3 seed is large this season.

There is a major difference between playing the Boston Bruins or the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, rather than the Washington Capitals or the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Carl Hagelin, Jake Guentzel, Kris Letang, Olli Maatta, Trevor Daley, and Ron Hainsey are the current players injured. It is amazing what they have done with all those players sidelined.

Pittsburgh should try and get the number 1 seed. If the last couple of games, they are locked into a spot and can't improve their seeding, then I would let the top players rest.
