Mets complete sweep of Marlins behind deGrom's career night

The best pitcher in baseball went to the hill for the Mets, and he cruised to one of the best games of his career. He struck out a new career high, 14, over 7 innings of scoreless ball. He also hit his second career HR, a solo shot. His performance is his 26th consecutive quality start, tying Bob Gibson for the MLB record. It's also his 31st straight game allowing 3 runs or less, extending his own record. On top of all that, he is the first Met ever to strikeout at least 10 batters in each of his first two starts of the year. The Mets offense showed up again today, scoring 6 runs on 10 hits. They now have 61 hits through the first 6 games of the season. Also 6 different Mets added an RBI to their season totals, so the wealth was shared. The bullpen bent again tonight, but did not fully break. Luis Avilan pitched a scoreless 8th, but gave up 3 hits to start the 9th. Gsellman tried to stop the bleeding but gave up 3 of his own, 2 for extra bases. Edwin Diaz, who the Mets were hoping to avoid using tonight, had to come in and get the last out, a flyout to left by Granderson to end the game. He does pick up his third save of the year though, his second save that only required one out. He should still be available tomorrow, and with an off day on friday, the Mets should still be okay in trying to avoid overusing him. All in all, the Mets did exactly what they needed to do in sweeping the Marlins. Now it's off to Citi Field for 5 games!
