Who Can The Heels Land?

Don't look now, but National Signing Day 2017 is a mere twelve days away. Currently the Heels have 19 commits to their 2017 class, but they are hoping that number goes up by 4:00 PM on February 1st. The Heels already have seven early enrollees who are already on campus and settling in to the college lifestyle. Let's take a look at some of the key uncommitted recruits that could be joining them in summer camp.

Devon Hunter

No. 3 S, No. 45 Overall

Hunter has been considering the Heels since the beginning, because of how long they had been interested in him. The Heels are not the leaders to land Hunter, though. Right now, most people (including myself) believe that it is down to Virginia Tech and Florida. Auburn will also make one more run at him as he will be on campus this weekend. Currently, Hunter does not have any more trips planned for Carolina. One interesting thing to note is that Hunter will commit today before even taking his Auburn visit. Hunter will also take a visit to Alabama next weekend.

A.J. Davis

No. 19 RB, No. 231 Overall

Davis is one prospect the Heels have been going after heavily since Elijah Hood’s decision to turn pro. Davis has narrowed his choices down to Carolina, Louisville and Florida at this point. At this point Davis has not set a commitment date, meaning it is likely the Under Armour All-American will wait till Signing Day to make his decision. Davis is just coming off his official visit to Chapel Hill and will head to Louisville this weekend for an official visit.

Timothy Jordan

No. 126 RB, No. 2038 Overall

Jordan is one prospect that has really emerged over the past few months. The Heels have been particularly aggressive after the loss of Hood and now seem like the favorites to land him. With that being said, the Heels have already made their pitch, as he visited Chapel Hill last week. He will visit Tennessee this weekend and close by visiting Purdue the next week. With all these visits scheduled, it is likely that Jordan will not make a decision until Signing Day.

Jarez Parks

No. 7 WDE, No. 93 Overall

Parks is one of the top defensive ends in the country and the Heels are still considered a top five team in the running for him. Parks, a U.S. Army All-American, had a visit with Nick Saban on Wednesday and will visit with Auburn this weekend. Right now those two teams are the favorites. The main thing the Heels have going for them at this point is that they will be the last team to host Parks for a visit. That gives the Heels a fighting chance.

Ameer Speed

No. 41 CB, No. 350 Overall

Speed has a lot on his plate these last few weeks of the recruiting cycle. Speed just took his visit to Chapel Hill this past weekend and received a visit from Nick Saban on Wednesday. This weekend, Speed will visit Georgia and next weekend he visits Oregon. With all of these visits scheduled, it appears it will be Signing Day before he signs. The Heels are making a strong push down the stretch, but with Charlton Warren leaving for Tennessee, they may lose some of that push.

Dazz Newsome

No. 81 ATH, No. 1247 Overall

Newsome visited Chapel Hill last weekend, and in the middle of his visit, decommitted from Maryland. Newsome is now one of the Heels top priorities and for good reason. Newsome’s last visit will be to Virginia Tech this weekend, meaning Newsome may commit sometime before Signing Day. At this point it seems to be between Carolina and Virginia Tech, meaning Carolina has a good shot here.
