What is Going on With the Carolina Panthers/49ers Trade Rumor?

NFL: Combine

If you have not heard already, there have been rumors spreading about Carolina potentially trading up to take the 49ers second overall pick. I have no idea what kind of talks are going on between the 49ers and Panthers, but there is currently no evidence that either party is serious about a trade. Personally I would not get my hopes up if you are expecting the Panthers to trade up. Trading up in the draft does not sound like something the Panthers would risk, especially with an already top ten pick. The 2017 draft is loaded with tons of talent and you are guaranteed to get a stud player with any top ten pick. Lets take a look at why it might happen and why it might not happen:

Why the trade deal could happen?

1) The Panthers will not want to pass up on some of generational players.

2) The Panthers have had their eyes on two players from LSU that won't likely be available at pick 8: Leonard Fornette and Jamal Adams.

3) Dave Gettleman has experience trading up in the draft. He traded up twice in the 2015 draft to get Devin Funchess and the fourth round for offensive tackle Daryl Williams.

Here is why I think it will not happen:

1) The Panthers already have a top ten pick. Trading up six spots will not make that much of a difference for what its worth. The Panthers can still walk away with a very talented player.

2) The Panthers will have four picks in the top ten (picks 8,40,72, and 98).

3) The 49ers are not going to want to give up a second round pick without a hefty price tag .

4) If Fornette, Jamal Adams, and Myles Garrett all get picked up before pick No. 8 like they are projected to, there is still plenty of talent at each of those positions.

Personally I do not think this trade rumor will prove to be anything more than a rumor, but then again Dave Gettleman is always full of surprises. He picks up players that no one has ever heard about and they end up being great. I won't be surprised if Gettleman tries his luck at trading up.

Do you think the Panthers should trade up and who would they do it for?
