New York Empire Stuns Philadelphia Freedoms

Philadelphia PA: It’s always an exciting time when you open your home schedule to start a new season and that is what we had on Monday Night from Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's University as the Philadelphia Freedoms took on New York Empire in Mylan World Team Tennis action. The freedoms come into the match against New York looking for some revenge after they tasted defeated from New York on July 16 For the 2017 season, the Philadelphia Freedoms will be playing their home games at Saint Joseph's because their normal home at Villanova University is being renovated. The Headline players in this match were Sloane Stephens for the Freedoms and Mardy Fish for the Empire. Sloane Stephens comes into her 2nd year playing in World Team Tennis after falling in the First round of Wimbledon in Women’s Singles against Alison Riske.

The Freedoms would take it to New York as they would win the first 3 sets of the match and had a 15-11 lead going into the 4th set and New York would rally back and steal the last 2 sets for a 21-20 win.
