A Thanksgiving Day Embarrassment; Eagles lose third straight!
Just when thing couldn't get any worse for the Philadelphia Eagles it does. A nationally televised Thanksgiving day game (where the entire country is watching) the Eagles get blown out for the second straight week this time in the hands of the Detroit Lions. The Eagles were coming off the worse loss under Chip Kelly and worse home loss in ten years four days earlier to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Eagles had a good first drive but it ended in a miss field goal. The Lions went three and out in their first drive and on the Eagles second drive you guess it they also go three and out. However, the Lions second drive they go down field and score a touchdown. It was an eight yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Theo Riddick. The Eagles next drive they go down field and score a touchdown of their own and tie the game up at seven; it was a two yard touchdown pass by Mark Sanchez to Brent Celek. The Lions would score on their next three drives (two *TDs and one ^FG) to take a 24-7 lead at halftime.
The third quarter began with the Lions scoring another touchdown on a 12 play, 80 yard drive that took nearly took 8 minutes long (7:51) to take a 31-7 lead. The Eagles would get the ball and after 36 seconds and three plays would fumble the ball. Sanchez got sacked and fumble it. This was pretty much the icing on the cake as this was so typical of Mark Sanchez another turnover when his team needed points badly. It only took 4 plays , 14 yards for the Lions to score another touchdown to take a 38-7 lead; It was Stafford's fifth touchdown pass of the game. And his third to his favorite target "Megatron" Calvin Johnson.
The next three drives would have the Eagles punt after six plays, the Lions and Eagles each going three and out. The Lions would score on a Joique Bell 1 yard touchdown run that took six plays. The Eagles and Lions would trade punts before the Eagles would score a meaningless touchdown with less than three minutes left on Jordan Matthews 24 yard catch from Mark Sanchez to make it 45-14. This was the worst loss in the Chip Kelly era and it wasn't pretty, it was just as bad as the Tampa Bay loss if not worse which is hard to believe.
My final thoughts on this awful game is that I'm not surprised one bit after the game against the Buccaneers where they didn't show any fight or passion, I honestly didn't expect much from them. And that's really hard to say. I'm very disgusted in this team, I've never been more disgusted with this team in all my 20 plus years of watching this team. I've never seen a team like this with no heart, no passion, no effort and no emotion. I don't care what the players say this team as quit on Chip Kelly and the coaching stuff. They can deny deny deny all they want but in my opinion and a lot of other fans opinion is they have quit.
Sure in 2012 that was really bad but that was the end of an era this we don't know yet. It very well could be the end of the Kelly era in Philadelphia but we won't know for another month if it is or not. It feels like it will be the end after the last two lack luster performances. And it doesn't get any better as the next game is on the road against the defending Super-Bowl champions the New England Patriots.
Finally, you thought the last two games were bad image what the Patriots might do with the best offense and quarterback in the NFL, they could put up over 50 points. The next game after is at home against the return of "Shady" LeSean McCoy the former Eagles' running back. McCoy was traded this past off season to the Buffalo Bills for injury prone linebacker and former Oregon Duck (Played under Kelly) Kiko Alonso. Alonso hasn't lived up to exceptions at all due to the fact that he partial tore his left knee in week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, this was the same knee he tore last summer when he was a member of the Bills.
