Fifth Down: Eagles Lose Second Straight Game!

Welcome NFL fans and of course my fellow Eagles peeps to the second installment of Fifth Down my five takes on the Eagles games.

Yesterday afternoon in the Nation's Capital the Eagles lost their second straight game following the bye week and fourth in a row to the Washington Redskins by the final of 27-20. The Eagles are now 3-2 and in third place in the NFC East after starting 3-0. They got down 14-0 again but thanks to the kick return touchdown by rookie Running Back, Wendell Smallwood  click here to watch the touchdown. And the pic six return by Safety, Malcolm Jenkins watch here that tied the game at 14-14.  If it wasn't for those two touchdowns we probably lose by more than two touchdowns. There was no offensive touchdowns for the first time this season.

My Five Thoughts on the Game:

1. The lack of discipline for the second straight game. The team had 13 penalties for 114 yards (49 in total so for this season) that's horrible. There was no discipline what so ever and for the third straight game they had double digit penalties that's a disgrace and needs to fixed NOW! For the second straight week the $100 million dollar guy Fletcher Cox got another late hit that was on third down and cost the Eagles, instead of the Redskins getting a field goal they would get a touchdown. And were up 21-14 at halftime instead of 17-14. The Eagles could set the record for most accepted penalties in a season the Oakland Raiders hold the record with 163 back in 2011.

2. Our defense isn't as good as everybody thought it was. The run defense is just awful and the cornerbacks are just as bad. The defense all of sudden forgot how to tackle and fill in the gaps. Where are the key players that made this defense one of the best in the first three weeks gone to?  Maybe we weren't that good at all. Fletcher Cox with two dumb penalties in back to back games is uncalled for. Where as Jordan Hicks been? Eagles' other linebacker, Mychal Kendicks is awful against the run can't tackle for his life, he needs to be cut or step it up.

3. Our OL is horrible without Lane Johnson he was the MVP of our offense besides Carson Wentz who played decently considering he was getting killed out there. Big V (Halapoulivaati Vaitai) the rookie Right Tackle whose replacing Lane Johnson was awful out there we need to upgrade or Carson Wentz won't last the season. The Redskins exposed our Offensive Line. Thanks Lane for being an idiot again!

4. Doug Pederson was out coached again for the second straight week. The play calling at the end of the game was bad. He needs to go back to drawing board before this season gets out of hand in a hurry. It won't be easy as the Eagles have the toughest reminding schedule in the NFL the rest of the season. The next Five games are as follows: vs. Vikings, @Cowboys, @Giants, vs. Falcons and @Seahawks.

5. One of the very few positives is that the special teams played really well and as I said Carson Wentz played decently but not great. That's really the one positives I have.

My Final Thoughts:

My thoughts on this game is that I'm pissed off about this lost unlike last week I wasn't all that pissed off. This team should of gone out there and made a statement against a team that's beaten them three straight games. Maybe the Redskins just have our number right now can't seem to beat them. It's funny how as soon as DeSean Jackson joined them we can't seem to beat them Thanks Chip Kelly for that. Redskins are 5-1 against the Eagles since they got him. One of the dumbest decisions ever. I'll say this, this team better be prepared for next week's home clash with the undefeated Minnesota Vikings lead by former Eagle, Sam Bradford whose actually been playing really well. The Vikings' Defense is the best in the league right now and if the Eagles play the way they did the last two weeks it's gonna be a very long Sunday afternoon in South Philly.

Finally, I still believe this team can find away into the playoffs because our division is weak and quite Frankly besides the Vikings, Seahawks, Falcons and yes Cowboys the NFC is weak. The Cowboys are red hot right now and are playing great football. How long that lasts who knows. They possibly have a big issue coming up when Tony Romo comes back take out the rookie Dak Prescott and put Tony Romo back in or leave the rookie in? I hope the Eagles defense shows up next week and ends this two game losing streak and get back to winning or else it's gonna be a long Winter in "South" Philadelphia.
