The Oakland Raiders were dealt a major blow as veteran CB Sean Smith may soon be out of the NFL as he was charged with felony assault and battery stemming from a fight with his sister's boyfriend.

The Los Angeles county district attorney said Smith faced major charges. Prosecutors say that the 9-year NFL veteran beat his sister's boyfriend and stomped on his head repeatedly on July 4th.

Smith faced DUI charges just two years ago as a member of the Chiefs.

Sean Smith is scheduled to be arraigned in Pasadena California next month, if he's convicted he could face 7 years in prison.

His defense attorney Daniel Rosenberg said Smith maintains his innocence and will plead not guilty. "The plan is to fight the charges all the way through", Rosenberg said.
