Charlie Strong Should Consider Georgia State in 2017

Charlie Strong was on the hot seat as soon as he became a head coach for the Texas Longhorns a couple years ago. The Boosters, The fans, and the whole state of Texas was never patient with him. As a result of such, he was doomed from the get go. Charlie Strong is a man of standard and he never got the respect he deserved in the state of Texas. Strong's image in Austin has been tainted, and a lot of people do not remember the good coach that he was before going to Austin. Now is time for him to return back to the region where his legacy was established. Strong has always been a good defensive coach dating back to his days as Defensive Coordinator for the Florida Gators. From the 2003-09, Strong’s defensive units at Florida allowed an average of 17.6 points per game, which ranked ninth in the country over that span. Also during his time at Florida, Strong coached numerous All-Americans, a National Defensive Player of the Year, a Jack Tatum Award winner, SEC Defensive Freshmen of the Year, Thorpe Award finalists, Nagurski Trophy finalists and Chevrolet Defensive Players of the Year. He also developed numerous first-round NFL Draft picks and players that were selected in the third round or higher. At Louisville, he was able to get that program back to being a Group of 5 Contender at the time from 2010-2013 finishing with a 23-3 record in his last 2 seasons.

Ok, but why should He go to the Georgia State Panthers?

According to suburbanstats.org, The city of Atlanta is 54% Black and 38% White. This is very important because Strong would have stronger support by The Black Community against any Texas like Booster that would try to distract him from doing his job. Despite the demographic, the state of Georgia State has a lot to offer that Strong could work with. Not only is Atlanta the capital of the south, but Georgia State bought Turner Field which was the former home of the Atlanta Braves and is in the process of building a new football stadium for The Panthers right in the heart of Atlanta. Strong is already a great recruiter and a Georgia State football stadium would give strong more leverage over The Sun Belt Conference, The Georgia Bulldogs and The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Now Strong stealing recruits from UGA is a long reach, but he will be capable of competing against Georgia Tech instantly for two reasons. One, Georgia State University is easier for a football player to get accepted into and they have more academic programs that suit well for Student-Athletes, while Georgia Tech is more suited for future Engineers and Tech Savy Students. Two, not only is Strong a better coach than Paul Johnson, but Strong can find a Sterling Gilbert type Offensive Coordinator that would attract more recruits. a Spread-Option, Up-Tempo Offense is more thrilling to play in than a predictable Triple Option Offense. The state of Georgia is surrounded by high school football talent. Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina...Strong would not have to travel across the country to find talent. In the Metro Atlanta area, he would be able to watch top recruits every Friday without purchasing airline tickets with the numerous talents that are in Gwinnett, Cobb, DeKalb, Clayton, Fulton Counties, and Atlanta Public Schools. He will also have instant access to the South Georgia region. To make the long story short, Strong will be in a Gold Mine for recruiting. As for conference play, The Panthers have already started a rivalry with current In-State Sun Belt member Georgia Southern. With Strong at the helm. not only would that rivalry heat up, but The Panthers would automatically become the face of the Sun Belt with Appalachian State, Troy, South Alabama and others putting a target on them. Georgia State is too big for The Sun Belt, and all they need is the right coach that would take them to new heights. They already have the right Athletic Director in Charlie Cobb who was instrumental in turning an Appalachian State football team into an FCS powerhouse, then to a FBS Group of 5 member. Now it's time for Cobb to join forces with the right coach that would elevate the Panthers into a future FBS Group of 5 Playoff Contender, and Charlie Strong is the right man for the job.
