To add or not to add
Deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on a player sitting on the waiver wire can be a tough choice at times, especially if your contemplating having to drop a player you drafted to make room. This week I give you four players worth adding and why they're worth claiming and riding throughout the season.
Rich Hill, SP, Athletics - The only time Rich Hill may have been mentioned as a waiver wire option would have been in the 2007 season, that season he compiled an 11-8 W-L record to go along with a 3.92 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 183 SO. In his last five seasons, HIll has played for six different teams with the majority of his appearances coming in relief. As a starter this season with the Athletics, Hill has started 10 games and has more or less carried their pitching staff by going 7-3, with a 2.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 65 SO in 57.2 IP. By now he's probably been scooped up off your waiver wire, but if not and you have room on your roster, ride him while you can. (Owned in 83% of Yahoo Leagues)
Mike Napoli, 1B, OF, Indians - Batting in the cleanup spot for the Indians this season, Napoli has produced efficiently by putting up 8 HR, 30 RBI and 15 runs. At this rate he's well on his way to putting 2015's less than stellar season in his rear-view mirror. Napoli is striking out an alarming rate which affects his average yet he's still on pace to post 70+ runs for only the third time in his career as well as 20+ HR and 80+ RBI's. There aren't many cleanup hitters left on the waiver wire, especially ones sitting in the top 25 of RBI producers. If you have room on your roster and can deal with a low average, pick him up. Josh Tomlin, SP, Indians - On a starting rotation that boasts the likes of Cory Kluber, Danny Salazar, and Carlos Carrasco, Tomlin is the forgotten one. Entering his last start, Tomlin sits at 7-0 which leads his team as is second to only Chris Sale in the American league, his WHIP sits at 0.98 which is also is second in the American League behind Chris Sale. Why Tomlin is still only owned in 52% of Yahoo Leagues is beyond me, if he's available on your waiver wire, nab him.
Justin Bour, 1B, Marlins - On a team with the likes of Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich, Bour flies under the radar and is quietly putting together a good offensive season. His slash line is sitting a .260/.333/.512 (AVG/OBP/SLG) coupled with nine long balls and 23 RBI in 40 games. With Yelich sidelined over the last four games Bour has been hitting in the three hole behind the table setters and in front Giancarlo, so RBI's and runs scored are to be had. Even when Yelich returns, Bour is a great option to have at 1B, add him now and ride him and watch him hit 20+ homers and drive in north of 70 RBI's. (Owned in 24% of Yahoo Leagues)
