The Chicago Cubs Are Going To Need a 'Wide Net' At The Trade Deadline. The Cubs Are Having Some Struggles Despite Being 0.5 Game In Front Of The Central Division Race In The National League.

Chicago Cubs Manager Joie Maddon, Said This To Reporters.

" If I Could Make It Rain I Would. I Don't Make Front Office Decisions. I Just Let My Opinion Be Known To Everybody."

The Cubs May Need Some Hitting...

The Cubs Hitting Is Either Good Or Not So Good. Right Now The Biggest Issue Is The Fact That Kyle Schwarber Is Not Good At Leadoff. And Also Thrown In The Fact That Second Baseman Addison Russell Has Been Sent To The Minors. And Yes Kris Bryant, Injured His Knee Against The San Francisco Giants On Wednesday, You Have Lost Two Hitters.

So Who Comes To Mind For The Cubs, I Have Two Bats That Come Into Mind.

No.1: Nicholas Castellanos Of The Detroit Tigers, He Has Had An Excellent Season Despite The Tigers Are Down And Out. Castellanos Is Hitting .299 And With An OPS Of .806 How Can You Pass Him Up.

No.2 Eric Sogard Of The Toronto Blue Jays. He Has Had a Fantastic Season And Despite The Blue Jays Are Not Doing Much At The Moment He Could Help The Cubs. Right Now Sogard Is Hitting .299 With an OBP Of .370, The Highest On The Blue Jays Staff, And He Has An OPS Of .843, So Yes The Cubs Could Use Them Both.

But The Bullpen Needs Help The Worst...

The Veteran Pedro Strop Is Having a Not So Good Year In The Bullpen. Yes He Does Have Nine Saves, However He Has Five Blown Saves And a 5.47 ERA, That's Not Good At All. Kyle Ryan Came From The Detroit Tigers Last Year On a One-Year Deal, But He Can Not Do It All. I Know That Ryan Has An ERA Of 3.38 And He Knows How To Hold a Lead Late In Ballgames. He Can Hold a Lead, However He Has No Saves And Is Not a True Closer.

This Is Where The San Francisco Giants Come In To Play. They Have Two True Relief Pitchers In Their Bullpen. Will Smith Is The Best Closer On The Giants Staff. He Has 24 Saves On The Season, And With 65 Strikeouts And An ERA Of 2.44, That's Somebody That The Cubs Can Use. The Giants Also Have a Bullpen Pitcher Who Can Hold a Lead And That's Tony Watson, And He Has a 2.85 ERA. Could This Be The Answer To The Cubs Bullpen Woes, We Shall See.

I Have a Couple Of Things For You To Keep In Mind For Next Week...

The Chicago Cubs And St Louis Cardinals Have a Three Game Set At Busch Stadium Next Week On Tuesday, Wednesday And Thursday.

The Cubs Do Own a 0.5 Game Lead Over Their Arch Rivals From Down I-55, And Yes The Cubs Have Gone 8-4 Since The All-Star Break. However, As One Cubs Executive Put It "We Need Help Just About Everywhere And I Hope We Can Get Some At The Deadline."

The St Louis Cardinals On Their Other Hand Might Have Just Recovered From Their Woes From May And They Are On The Cubs Heels. The Cardinals Are 10-3 Since The All-Star Break, And Right Now The Cardinals Have The 2nd Wildcard So There's Going To Be A lot At Stake At Busch Stadium Next Week So Keep That In Mind.

Bottom Line...
