Tampa Bay Rays Farm Report
The Tampa Bay Rays have been much improved in the 2017 campaign, but they will probably fall short of making the postseason. Surprisingly, they have one of the better farm systems in all of baseball. In a couple of years from now, the Rays could compete with the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in the American League.
Brent Honeywell is the Rays top prospect in their farm system. He is a right handed pitcher and is projected to reach the majors this season. His record is 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA. In 125 innings pitched, Honeywell has walked 32 batters and struck out 160.
Willy Adames is the Rays second best prospect in their farm system. He is a shortstop and has tremendous range in the field. Adames is projected to reach the MLB sometime next season. His batting average is .269 with 9 homeruns and 48 RBI's, along with 9 stolen bases.
Brendan McKay is ranked third in Tampa Bay's farm system. He is a first baseman and was drafted fourth overall in the 2017 MLB Draft. McKay is projected to reach the majors in 2019. In 22 games with Hudson Valley, his batting average is .197 with 4 homeruns and 14 RBI's, along with one stolen base.
Jake Bauers is ranked fifth on Tampa Bay's top 30 prospects list. He is an outfielder and first baseman. Bauers is projected to reach the majors sometime this season. His batting average is .267 with 12 homeruns and 58 RBI's, along with 15 stolen bases.
Garrett Whitely is ranked ninth on Tampa Bay's top 30 prospects list. He is an outfielder and is projected to reach the majors in 2019. His batting average is .253 with 11 homeruns and 52 RBI's, along with 16 stolen bases.
Austin Franklin is ranked twelfth on the Rays top 30 prospects list. He is a right handed pitcher and isn't projected to reach the majors until 2020. His record is 2-2 with a 2.75 ERA. In 52.1 innings pitched, Franklin has walked 26 batters and struck out 55.
Joe McCarthy is ranked seventeenth on the Rays top 30 prospects list. He is an outfielder and first baseman. McCarthy is projected to reach the majors sometime next season. His batting average is .293 with 5 homeruns and 48 RBI's, along with 17 stolen bases.
Ryne Stanek is ranked twenty-first on the Rays top 30 prospects list. He actually was in the majors earlier in the season, but Stanek got roughened up a little bit. He didn't record a win or a loss, but had an ERA of 6.39. In 12.1 innings pitched, he walked 7 batters and struck out 16. In the minors this season, his record is 1-0 with a 1.18 ERA. In 38 innings pitched, Stanek has walked 15 batters and struck out 51. He also has 8 saves.
