Mets take the series opener from Toronto

It's been a rough month for the Mets and their fans. After a blazing hot 11-1 start, they're 8-17 in their last 25. With the Blue Jays in town, the Mets have a chance to pick up a couple games, and win back to back for the first time since the tail end of their 9-game winning streak. Toronto has not fared well in New York. Although they play the Yankees 3 times a year in the Bronx, they've struggled mightily in Queens as well. Over their first 4 trips to Shea and now Citi Field, the Blue Jays have played 11 games, and lost all 11. With a big 8-game homestand coming up, the Mets need to do something they haven't done consistently in a long time-- win at home. They start it off strong with a 12-2 victory over the Blue Jays, who are now 0-12, yes 0-12 in Queens; 0-9 at Shea and 0-3 at Citi. Syndergaard was strong, but again only 5 innings does not provide the length the Mets need out of him. Lugo cleaned it up with a couple of scoreless innings, and the offense clicked on all cylinders. Rosario, Cabrera, Nimmo, Lagares, Guillorme, Mesoraco, and Syndergaard all with at least a hit and an RBI. It was a team effort, with the battery, Syndergaard and Mesoraco shining, and the young studs, Rosario and Guillorme providing sparks as well. It's only one game, and the parade should be postponed until at least the end of the homestand, but a strong start to the week plus at Citi nonetheless.
