Sonny Cumbie or Gary Patterson?

The TCU Horned Frogs may have a tough decision to make at the end of the season. The 2016 season have been a fairly disappointing season for the Horned Frogs. For the first time in since the 2013 season, TCU has lost more than two games. The major problem with the team so far this season is the defense. Back in August, dallasnews.com reported Head Coach Gary Patterson as saying that the defense will have to carry the offense this season, but it's the offense that's carrying the defense and if it wasn't for the offense, the Frogs would be winless right now. The credit for the offense success doesn't go to Garry Patterson, it goes to Co-Offensive Coordinators Sonny Cumbie and Doug Meachem. Now Cumbie is a guy that was heavily recruited by Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong for an Offensive Coordinator position in the off-season. With the way things are going down south in Austin, Texas, Cumbie could be Strong's replacement as head coach in 2017 which leads to the question for TCU officials: Should we keep Gary Patterson or should we fire Patterson and promote Cumbie to Head Coach? Now, Cumbie & Meachem have done a good job in developing the offense into a competitive high scoring offense. TCU's offense is one of the best in the nation, and if they had any sorts of defense, The Frogs would currently be The BIG 12's only hope for a College Football Playoff appearance. The offense has scored 24 or more points in seven out of eight games so far this season. The Frogs also are top 5 amongst their BIG 12 counterparts in Total Passing Yards and Total Overall Yards thru eight weeks of the season.  The Cumbie-Meachem tandem is the reason why TCU still remains relevant in the BIG 12. As for Patterson, he has failed to take advantage of the opportunity to win the BIG 12. If former LSU Head Coach Les Miles was in Patterson's position, TCU would be the Alabama of The BIG 12. Far too many times you hear that Patterson is a good defensive coach, but TCU's defense is constantly giving up big numbers to their BIG 12 counterparts. Losing games in the weakest conference amongst the Power 5 is unacceptable. Maybe Patterson would be better as a Defensive Coordinator which would put him in position to just focus on that side of the ball without handling the coaching and administrative duties that Head Coaches have to deal with.
