53 man roster prediction.

This is my prediction of who makes the Washington Redskins 53 man roster. This is the first draft and I will update this weekly as things are sure to change once preseason games are underway. These are the players that have stood out to in mini camps and the first few weeks of training camp.

QB's -

1. Alex Smith

2. Colt McCoy

Nothing to see here. Colt McCoy one year extension tells me that Kevin Hogan is just a camp arm. Gruden may like Hogan but McCoy is what you want in a back up QB.

RB's -

1. Derrius Guice

2. Chris Thompson (3rd down back)

3. Rob Kelley or Samaje Perine

4. Bryon Marshall

So far in camp it has been a healthy roatation at running back. Jay Gruden has mixed Guice, Kelley and Perine in with the starters. I believe Guice will take over and be the obvious choice, however he is a just a rookie. Guice needs to earn the starting role and neither Kelley or Perine will just hand it over. It is worth noting that Gucie is listed as the 4th string running back, before the start of the first preseason game. With that said Guice is hands down the more talented player of the three. After a few preseason games Jay Gruden will surely name Guice the week 1 starter. That doesn't mean we won't see Kelley or Perine. I doubt we see both but whichever one of them makes the team will play an important part. Side note, Bryon Marshall equals Chris Thompson insurance.

WR's -

1. Josh Doctson

2. Jamieson Crowder

3. Paul Richardson Jr

4. Brian Quick

5. Mo Harris

6. Trey Quinn

Unlike the QB position there is a lot to see here. Doctson, Richardson Jr and Crowder are locks. All of the next three players could be cut by the time the 53 man roster is set, on September 1st at 4pm east coast time. Quick has been impressive at the start of camp and should make the roster. He faces a ton of competition from players like Mo Harris, Robert Davis, Trey Quinn and Simmie Cobbs jr.

TE's -

1. Jordan Reed

2. Veronen Davis

3. Jeremy Sprinkle

Barring injury absolutely nothing will change here.

OL -

1. Trent Williams (T)

2. Morgan Moses (T)

3. Brandon Scherff (G)

4. Chase Roulier (C)

5. Shawn Lauvao (G)

6. Tony Beregstrom (G/C)

7. Tyler Catalina (G)

8. Ty Nyshke (T)

9. Geron Christian (T)

A few spots could move around here. Trent Williams likely wont work much early in camp and probably won't play much if at all in the preseason. That will give young guys like Geron Christian time to grow. Also some rumblings about Ty Nyshke moving inside to guard might start to become reality. Gruden did mention the importance of having a back up center. For now I believe that is Tony Beregstrom.

DL -

1. John Allen

2. DaRon Payne

3. Matt Ioannidis

4. Tim Settle

5. Anthony Lanier

6. Ziggy Hood

Phil Taylor will push Hood for that 6th spot but why keep a guy who only plays one position, over a guy who plays multiple. Also Hood has the benefit of having played football the last few seasons. If you know the Phil Taylor story you're rooting for him. It's an uphill battle though.

ILB -

1. Zach Brown

2. Mason Foster

3. Josh Harvey-Clemons

4. Shaun Dion Hamilton

5. Zach Vigil

Draftong Shaun Dion Hamilton would lead me to believe that the team is ready to move on from Martell Spaight. However Hamilton doesn't seem to be fully recovered from a broken knee cap he suffered in college. If that is the case and he ends up on the pup list Martell could make the team. Other wise he has to beat out Vigil which is very possible.

OLB -

1. Ryan Kerrigan

2. Preston Smith

3. Ryan Anderson

4. Pernell McPhee

5. Pete Robertson

This group is pretty much set. Pete Robertson needs to have a good preseason but I like his chances to make the roster.

CB -

1. Josh Norman

2. Quinton Dunbar

3. Fabian Moreau

4. Orlando Scandrick

5. Adonis Alexander

6. Greg Stroman

The first four are locks. Who plays where is TBD. Alexander and Stroman will battle for the 5th spot. Stroman, who has reportedly has had a bad camp so far, needs to impress in games and on special teams.

S -

1. DJ Swearinger

2. Montae Nicholson

3. Deshazor Everett

4. Troy Apke

Saftey is a position to keep an eye on. Swearinger and Nicholson will be the starters but if one of them goes down the play of Everett and Apke will be something to keep an eye on.

Special teams -

K - Dustin Hopkins

P - Tress way

LS - Nick Sundberg
